The path you have chosen is a high calling, meaning that together through your lived vocation of marriage and with God’s bountiful grace, you will do something more noble and beneficial for each other, the Church, your family and all those around you.
The self-giving love of husband and wife for each other images the highest of all loves: the love of Jesus Christ, who lays down His life for His Bride, the Church. As husband and wife, your lives are joined together as fellow companions on a journey to God for all the days of your life.
The family you are preparing to create, at its apex, will reflect the Holy Trinity: persons joined in a communion of love that pours forth to bring life to others, most especially, God willing, through the gift and blessing of children. In the view of the Church, the family is the fundamental unit of human society, and is itself a domestic church, where children first learn to know and love God, where the family members share regularly in prayer, and where each member becomes more authentically the person they were created to be.
Since your marriage and family will be such a central part of your lives, and the lives of your children, there are a number of important steps we ask you to take as your prepare for marriage. Our commitment to you at Saints Philip and James is to give you the best preparation we can, so that you will have a strong foundation and the tools on which to build your marriage and your domestic church.
Your wedding day is intended to be a manifestation of your faith in God and the consecration of your lives to each other. With this in mind, we also have important guidelines for you to read and follow so that you may experience a joyful, grace-filled, and sacred ceremony.
